We currently operate an 870-hectare property running cattle and sheep. Since purchasing the property in 2014, the journey of lifting it from a set-stocked, low-input system with ageing infrastructure to where it is today has been quite a ride for Fleur and me. Implementing a new fencing and laneway program, along with improvements to pastures and the watering system, has resulted in increased stocking rates and productivity.
One of the key challenges we face is changing weather patterns. We try to view this as an opportunity to gain an edge where possible. Being flexible and able to adapt our grass and fodder production programs to seasonal variability is increasingly important.
We have used the Phoenix suite of tools since 2014. Phoenix allows us to easily change direction in our budgeting when conditions are against us. It provides clear visibility of what is on hand through inventory listings, helping avoid unnecessary input purchases, and gives insight into grazing pressure. Payroll functionality also offers peace of mind, removing the need to worry about the finer details of awards, superannuation, and STP.
Phoenix is the only agricultural software that covers our entire production system.
