Farm Budgeting Software

Phoenix is a comprehensive and sophisticated accounting platform tailored to meet the unique financial management requirements of agricultural enterprises. I have used Xero, a program marketed as easy to use and found that it is overpriced, limited in capability, and has issues with some basic functions such as preparing BAS. I use Quick books for another business as it is cheap, however in doing so I lament the fact that it is very quirky and not intuitive to operate. As a program designed specifically for agriculture, Phoenix does as much as possible to reduce the time taken and to simplify the tasks.

One of the things we love about Phoenix Live is the ability to give our partners in the business access remotely. So now our accountant and bank manager relationship is a very simple situation.

A big challenge is our finances. After long droughts and little income through those periods spending has to be limited. By using the budgets through Phoenix we can create multiple budgets based on different situations and circumstances so we can plan ahead.

We rely a lot on the quantities when entering our grain, hay or stock numbers, this helps when budgeting with our farm consultant. The program is easily shared between our accountant and our farm consultant, making easy emailing of the backups for their viewing. The GST function is awesome. I have worked with other accounting packages but Phoenix works for our farming enterprise. We still run a desktop version as the internet is not reliable enough for the live version.

Financials and budgeting are key in any business. To be able to compile it all in the program and then send it to our account is terrific. We also use the invoicing for our customers/suppliers. This is very simple to use and it looks professional.

Our business structure has become increasingly complex and Phoenix has accommodated all of that complexity. Phoenix has continuously improved over the years making financial reporting so much more efficient. There are always times when small errors in financial reporting are made, and I love that Phoenix allows me to rectify errors easily. It’s so intuitive. Recently we’ve moved into paying wages and the timesheet and STP is amazingly efficient. The software has grown so much to make bookkeeping so much easier and time efficient. I have had experience with other financial and timesheet reporting programs in other businesses I have been involved with, but Phoenix is so comprehensive that we won’t be moving away from this suite of tools.”

Budgets, Budgets, Budgets! They are continually changing (due to seasonal conditions) and they are also the first item that is requested from Banks, Accountants, Consultants, etc. Phoenix Budgets are user friendly and I love the easy way that the ‘actuals’ can be input after adding them into the ‘financials’ system. It makes it easy to compare actuals vs budget. Another benefit of Phoenix is the livestock system. Extremely easy to use, navigate and pull reports when you have an inquiry about stock numbers, etc.

Phoenix Budget worktables are quite possibly the key function that gives Phoenix an edge over other budgeting tools, by giving meaningful assumptions to support the budget. Lenders need evidence of accountability and good business management.
