Turning rainfall data into grazing decisions is easier with the right tools – here’s how 3 Phoenix Livestock Reports help you make smarter grazing calls.

1. Grazing Yield Report – Reports kg/ha/100mm rainfall
As a livestock farmer, you’d be familiar with Stock Days per Hectare (SDH)/100mm rainfall. In Phoenix Livestock, we take it a step further with kg/ha/100mm.
The Grazing Yield Report looks at the kilograms of beef or lamb, for example, that is produced in the paddock. It calculates the weight of livestock entering the paddock by interpolating the recorded individual (or mob) weights to the day they entered, and does the same for the day they left, to determine the change in weight while in the paddock. The report works best when there is enough weight data.
This assumes weight readings are taken at each movement, allowing weight gain to be deduced per location – in this case, paddock. Combined with your rainfall data in Phoenix Weather, this produces the kg/ha/100mm figure.
A negative result means the livestock lost weight in that location.
2. Grazing Performance Report – Reports SU/ha/100mm rainfall
The Grazing Performance Report is based on the teachings of RCS. It looks at the average and total grazing load across the whole property over time, highlighting trends. This can help you track your grazing demand for the property by incorporating rainfall data, which can make a significant difference to your property’s stocking capacity.
3. Grazing Benchmark Report – Reports SU/ha/100m rainfall
The Grazing Benchmark Report is similar to the Grazing Performance Report. However, it plots a single black line for the results of the parameter chosen in the Options menu.
The shaded blue area represents the highest and lowest values achieved each month, based on the benchmark start date entered in the Options menu. This allows you to compare current performance directly against historical performance.
If the black line extends beyond the shaded area, this represents a new high or low for that month in the reported benchmark history. This new high or low will then form the extent of the shaded area for that month in subsequent years.
